Lake Monona 20km
Run: The race offers a beautiful course with
springtime temperatures often ideal for running (though
it has been known to snow, to rain or to be hot and
humid - this is Wisconsin springtime, after all!), and
lots of runners to share the experience. For those with
longer distance ambitions, it is a traditional way to
peak your training for the 20 mile Syttende Mai Run two
weeks later, or to prepare for summer marathons.
Start & Finish:
near the Winnequah Park Pool House. Winnequah Park is in
Monona WI. The start is on Nichols Road; the finish is
new for 2008 and will finish on Nichols Road near the
start.
Course:
Around Lake Monona. A 20 km loop, clockwise, on winding
residential streets and paved bike paths close to the
scenic shore of beautiful Lake Monona, with moderately
rolling hills. The 5 km mark comes shortly after you
enter Waunona Way. A spectacular state capitol skyline
beckons as you cross Lake Monona on the causeway towards
the 10 km mark. You descend into Olbrich park shortly
after the 15 km mark.
