Registration for the 2014 Lake Mills Sprint Tri is OPEN!  

The Lake Mills Triathlon kicks off the 2014 Wisconsin Triathlon Series! This sprint distance race is a wonderful introductory event for beginner racers and the flat, fast course provides a competitive atmosphere for experienced racers. Each athlete will receive a technical t-shirt, a safe course with an experienced water safety team and a swim marked by large, highly-visible buoys.  Pre-race water and post-race refreshments will be served.

The course will be accurately measured and well-marked, and the race will be chip-timed by SMA timing.  Transition will be secure and professional bike SAG will be provided by the Trek Bicycle Store of Madison in transition and on the course.  

A pre-race clinic from a local pro triathlete and/or USAT certified coach will be announced closer to race day. 

Throughout the season, the series scoring will be tracked by Athlinks, and at each race you will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a Trek Speed Concept bike that will be given away at the end of the series.


When: June 1, 2014. Transition opens at 5:45 am, race starts at 7:00 am.

Race Preview Clinic:

All of the races in our series have a preview clinic in the weeks leading up to the race. Each of these clinics is hosted by either a USAT certified coach or pro triathlete that has done the race before and is familiar with the course. Beginner triathletes and experienced athletes alike will benefit from this opportunity to preview the course with an experienced racer!


Swim: The swim takes place in Rock Lake. There is an experienced water safety team on the swim course if the event anyone needs assistance. NO swimmers will be allowed flotation devices. You must be able to swim 1/4 mile in open water comfortably.

Bike: The 16 mile bike course is held on country roads. The bike course is well marked and has plenty of volunteers on the course. Helmets ARE required and MUST BE FASTENED before leaving the transition area. Please stay on the right so other riders can pass you safely. There are no aid stations on the bike, so please plan accordingly. Draft marshals will be present to enforce rules.  NO DRAFTING!  For a map of the bike course, click here.

Run: The 5K run is an out and back route on the Glacier Drumlin Trail. There will be two water stations on the run course. The first will be located right outside transition, and the other will be located at the 5K turn around. All runners MUST wear a number. It should be worn facing the front. Transition Area: Transition is located in the Sandy Beach parking lot. Athletes should have their transition area set up at least a 1/2 hour before the race start.  Transition will be secure and only participants will be allowed into transition.  For respect to ALL participants, transition will close 15 minutes prior to the start of the first wave and will remain closed until the last person completes the bike portion of the event.


This event will be chip-timed. All athletes will be provided with "ChampionChip" sensors supplied by Sports Management Associates.  CHIPS MUST BE WORK ON THE ANKLE!


Overall awards: 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded to men and women. Overall awards will also be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd relay teams.

Age Group awards: 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded for each age group, men & women. Age groups are as follows: 19 & U, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65 & over.

Special Award Categories, 1st, 2nd & 3rd will be awarded to men in the Clydesdale category, women in the Athena category and men and women in the Novice category.  ***Novice Category is for participants that have completed 3 or fewer races.

On race morning, packet pick-up will start at 5:45 AM at tents near transition.

Body Marking:

After checking in, please go to the body marking area. Your race number and your wave will be marked on the leg and the arm. These markings are used to identify you and people in your wave at the start of the swim.

Rules and Regulations:

  • Wetsuits may be worn.
  • Helmets and swim caps are MANDATORY.
  • Drafting is NOT permitted. Penalties and disqualification will be given for drafting.
  • You MUST wear your velcro band with a timing chip on your ANKLE throughout the race. NO CHIP = NO TIME.
  • All relay athletes will exchange the timing chip in transition.
  • All athletes need to mount/dismount the bike at the mount/dismount line.
  • All runners are required to wear a bib number and it MUST face forward at the finish line.
  • Racers and Spectators must follow volunteer instructions at all times.

 Refund and Inclement Weather Policy:

Race Day Events and the WI Tri Series have a strict NO REFUND policy. Refunds will not be issued for any reason, including race cancelation due to inclement weather. The race director reserves the right to cancel or alter the race and its course at any point in time to preserve racer safety.
